Samsung Techwin (represented by Lee Joonggoo, www. samsungcamera.co.kr) has announced that its Samsung i70 digital camera, released in the first half of the year, has taken top honours at the prestigious EISA (European Imaging and Sound Association) European Design Camera Awards 2007-2008.
The EISA Awards are also known as the Nobel Prizes of the camera industry, and the selection committee for the Awards consists of 50 experts chosen from over 20 European countries. EISA’s top honours are awarded after strict quality testing by these experts in a total of five sectors: Audio, Home Theatre, Video, Photo,and Mobile Devices.
According to EISA, the Samsung i70 – European Design Camera for 2007-2008 – offers “an innovative sliding cover” and “a 4-coloured full metal body”, and is “an attractive compact camera having lens decorated with cubic zircon, having a sensitive look and feel about its design”. EISA also said that the i70 is expected to have great appeal to younger customers because of its MPEG-4 movie display function and multi-media functions, which include an MP3 player.
The i70 provides features such as an innovative sliding cover, high quality with 7.2M pixels, a 3” wide LCD, an SRS surround audio system with MP3 player, a slim stainless body with a special finish, and a lens coated with cubic zircon. The camera is well-equipped with plenty of powerful functions, and its design is both sensitive and advanced.
A Samsung insider said “Samsung Techwin has developed real confidence in terms of its design, as well as its already proven quality & technical capability, as this EISA Award proves. Samsung will continue to develop new products that are able to satisfy the needs of European customers.”

The ‘Samsung L83T’ is a digital camera for the active young generation who live with their cameras, to capture the bright moments in their daily lives. Along with many functions for still picture taking, the ‘Samsung L83T’ is also equipped with several movie functions, which make it easy to create cartoons, artistic pictures and movies.

Samsung Digital Camera won two TIPA Awards, or the Oscars of the photo and video industry.
According to the announcement of Samsung Techwin (President & CEO LEE, JOONG-KOO, www.samsungcamera.com), its multimedia digital camera ‘i7’ and ‘Smart Touch’ User Interface were recently named ‘2007 Best Multimedia Digital Camera’ and ‘2007 Best Imaging Innovation’, respectively, by the Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
The TIPA, a group formed in 1991 by editors of 31 camera and video magazines from 12 European countries, recognises the world’s best camera products every year.
In keeping with the multimedia trend getting stronger across the digital industry, the TIPA added the ‘Best Multimedia Digital Camera’ category last year. The first winner of this category was Samsung’s Digimax i6 PMP, followed by ‘Samsung i7’ this year, as if proving that Samsung is the best when it comes to digital cameras.
Samsung i7 is a multimedia product released in March this year with great anticipation. It is equipped with a 180-degree LCD and a touch screen as well as the special flash GUI (Graphic User Interface) unique to Samsung. They are designed to meet the needs of younger generations and provide easy access to a variety of multimedia features.
The 7.2 megapixel, a 3x optical zoom, 3.0-inch LCD switches its modes as it rotates (0 degree→MP3P /90 degrees→PMP / 180 degrees→ camera). It also supports ISO 1600, provides face recognition AF & AE features and 14 shooting modes to help obtain the best possible photos.
Another particular feature of ‘Samsung i7’ is its ‘World Tour Guide.’ It provides travel information of tourist destinations in 30 countries, making it a good companion of travellers.
By winning the TIPA Awards, Samsung Digital Camera also demonstrated the world’s best UI technology.
The Smart Touch UI was presented with the launch of the ‘NV Series,’ Samsung Techwin’s premium digital camera brand. It is an innovative UI technology that provides easy and convenient camera operation.
Smart Touch is built in NV11, NV10, NV7 OPS, and L73.
It is not the first time that Samsung Digital Camera won the TIPA Awards. FX-4 and 140IP, Samsung’s analogue automatic film cameras, were also winners of the TIPA Awards in 1994 and 1999, respectively. Samsung i6 PMP and i7 Samsung seem to follow in their footsteps as the best digital cameras in the world.
“Again we have won the most prestigious TIPA Awards in the photo and video fields this year, following the TIPA awards and the EISA awards last year,” said a representative of Samsung Camera. “Our goal is to become the No. 3 in the global digital camera market based on our proven technology. Samsung Techwin (www.samsungcamera.com) has for the first time won the Gold Award at a prestigious international design award show – the iF Design Award 2007.
International Forum Design Hanover, in Germany, the hosting company of the iF Design Awards 2007, announced on 15th March that Samsung Techwin’s premium product NV series (NV7, NV10 & NV3) and the digital convergence camera i6PMP had won the Gold Award.
The iF Design Awards, a representative European design award renowned, together with the IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Awards) in the USA, for its international prestige, evaluates design, quality, material suitability, innovativeness, environmental friendliness, functionality, convenience of use, and beauty to select the best designed products.
The award winning NV series is the first product group in Samsung’s premium brand. The NV series won high scores for functionality and user interface as well as for colour – the luxurious royal black – and refined image.
The i6PMP won the Gold Award for its diverse digital convergence functions including an MP3 player and PMP, and also for its grip, which is designed with a 17-degree wave that enables the user to hold it securely.
“The first Gold award at the iF Design Awards 2007 given to the NV series and the i6PMP proves that Samsung Techwin is acknowledged as a specialized digital camera brand” said a representative of Samsung Techwin, and added that “The award winning products will be displayed at CeBIT Hannover 2007 starting on March 15”.
